Heavy Metal Toxicity
Heavy metal contamination in the body can cause significant problems and risks. There are 167 types of chemicals found in the blood and urine from heavy metals such as mercury and lead. 76 of these types of chemicals have been linked to cancer, 94 are toxic, and 79 have been linked to birth defects or abnormal development. These chemicals can cause behavioral disorders, lowered IQ, and more. Low levels of these heavy metals can be found in our food supply, as well as in our environment at home and work. Over time, they accumulate in our body. Some of the metals are naturally eliminated by the body over time, however, it can be a very slow process.
request an appointmentHow Does Chelation Work?
Several different chelating agents can be used to chelate (pull out) heavy metals out of the body including EDTA, DPMS, DTPA, and DMSA. These agents are effective when administered in consistent dosages over time through IV therapy and sometimes by taking oral capsules. Each IV treatment takes approximately 30 minutes and must be performed in a series of weekly sessions over time with regular blood and urine testing to monitor the kidneys and liver. It is important to replenish beneficial elements such as copper, zinc, calcium and other trace minerals before and after chelation treatment to prevent nutritional deficiencies.
Chelation therapy can be an effective way to combat environmental exposure to chemicals, pesticides, solvents, food additives, and heavy metals, which are on the rise. Causal relationships between toxic chemicals and diseases are continuing to be studied and implicated in many underlying health conditions like chronic fatigue, headaches, auto-immune diseases, mood disorders, and cancer to name a few. Many patients endure chronic symptoms that are associated with exposure to toxins long before advanced stages of specific diseases are even realized.
Common Toxic heavy metals and conditions they can cause.
Mercury Toxicity
The most toxic form of mercury is methylmercury which is absorbed easily by the body. It has been shown to be toxic to the nervous system, damaging brain cells. Mercury toxicity can cause psychological symptoms such as: Irritability, excitability, temper outbursts, quarreling, fearfulness/anxiety, restlessness, depression and insomnia along with chronic fatigue and poor memory. Mercury chronically activates the immune system which can lead to autoimmune conditions. This heavy metal has been shown to have adverse neuro-developmental effects on children as well. It is commonly found in larger fresh/saltwater fish as well as in the soil and air around facilities that burn coal.
Lead Toxicity
Lead has physiological and pathological effects on body tissues that may be manifested from even relatively low lead levels. In children, developmental disorders and behavior problems may occur at relatively low levels: loss of IQ, hearing loss, poor growth/failure to thrive. Lead toxicity has also been linked to: impaired vitamin D metabolism, headaches, metallic taste in the mouth, loss of appetite, constipation, colic, anemia, tremors, and neuropathy (damage to nerves with symptoms of tingling, numbness, muscle weakness). Lead can be very destructive to the kidneys and nerves. It is stored by the body and can accumulate in the bones. It can be found in lead-based paints, ceramic glaze on some pottery/ceramics, the soil near industrial areas that have stored leaded gasoline, recycled lead-acid batteries, radiator repair and activities that involve the use of lead solder such as welding and stained-glass work.
Cadmium Toxicity
Cadmium can accumulate in the kidneys and is associated with kidney damage and can target the bones lowering bone density which can result in osteopenia (weak bones) and osteoporosis (brittle bones). Chronic conditions associated with cadmium toxicity include high blood pressure, weight loss, anemia, uterine fibroids, emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis (if inhalation from smoking was a route of contamination), atherosclerosis, poor concentration and peripheral neuropathy (damage to nerves with symptoms of tingling, numbness, muscle weakness). Cadmium exposure has been linked to lung, renal, prostate and pancreatic cancers as well as to hypothyroidism. Common cadmium exposure sources include eating vegetables and cereal grains grown in contaminated soil. It is estimated that 40% of human cadmium exposure comes from rice. Vegetarians/vegans are more likely to be exposed to higher levels of cadmium in their diet vegetables such as lentils, spinach, lettuce, root vegetables are also known to be high in cadmium. Other sources include shellfish and oragan meats (kidney/liver). It is also commonly found in cigarette smoke including second hand smoke.
Aluminum Toxicity
Aluminum is considered toxic to the brain. Poor memory and concentration, chronic fatigue and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety are symptoms of Aluminum toxicity. Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and breast cancer have also been linked to this heavy metal. The main source of oral intake of aluminum is in our everyday food supply. Sources that have the highest aluminum include, baking mixes, self-rising flour, dairy creamers, aspirin, anti-caking agents, baking powder, American processed cheese and Canned foods/beverages These usually provide 4,000–9,000 micrograms intake per day. Using antacids may increase oral intake up to 5,000,000 micrograms. Working in an aluminum processing plant increases aluminum intake by up to 25,000 micrograms by inhalation. Deodorants containing aluminum compounds may increase entrance of this metal into the body up to 50,000–75,000 micrograms per day.
Other Heavy Metals
Arsenic, Antimony, Barium, Beryllium, Bismuth, Cesium, Nickel, Palladium, Platinum, Tellurium, Thallium, Thorium, Tin, Titanium, Tungsten, and Uranium may also be playing a negative role in your overall health.
Gadolinium and Gadolinium Deposition Disease:
Gadolinium Deposition Disease (GDD) is a relatively new condition that mostly affects young and middle-aged white women of central european genetic origin. The most common symptoms are fatigue, brain fog, skin pain, skin discoloration, bone pain, muscle fasciculations, and pins and needles, but a long list of additional symptoms is reported. Gadolinium nano particles have been detected in both the brain and the kidneys. The time of onset of symptoms ranges from immediately after exposure to 1 month after gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) administration used during MRI’s with contrast. The primary treatment is to avoid further GBCAs and metal removal through chelation. Presently, the most effective chelating agent is DTPA because of its high affinity with gadolinium. Other chelating agents can also be used as well. The disease becomes progressively more severe with each subsequent GBCA injection or exposure. It is generally very treatable after the first symptoms of GDD, often arising after the first GBCA injection. Gadolinium is excreted in the urine and has been detected in various levels in our water supply as current wastewater treatment does not address this metal.
IV Nutritional Therapies
IV therapy is a method of administering fluids, medications, vitamins or minerals directly into a patient’s bloodstream intravenously to address a variety of medical conditions, including nutritional deficits and dehydration. The goal of IV treatment is to quickly replenish fluids, and essential nutrients that the body has become deficient in for various reasons including dehydration, illness, and poor intestinal absorption. Many nutrients are poorly absorbed by the GI tract and can only be absorbed in small quantities over time even under optimal circumstances. This is the case with nutrients like vitamin C, iron and vitamin B12. With IV therapy, the gut is bypassed and 100% of the nutrient is available for the body to use.
Just about any water soluble nutrient or medication can be administered by IV. Depending on the needs of the patient, an IV treatment can be customized for their individual needs. Some common wellness IVs such as the Myer’s Cocktail, the Immune Boost and the High Dose Vitamin C IV have become synonymous with general health and wellness. At Advanced Regenerative Medicine, we offer not only the more commonly known IVs, but we can add on additional nutrients depending on the client’s needs for a truly customized treatment far beyond what you can get in other franchised IV offices. These add on therapies may include the addition of stem cells and exosomes as part of our anti-aging and regenerative protocol. We also offer additional vitamins, minerals, amino acids, peptides, glutathione as well as high dose IV vitamin C up to 100 grams (100,000 mg) and prescription medications if needed.

Phosphatidylcholine IV (New)
All of the cells in the human body are encapsulated with a membrane that’s made up of a double layer of phospholipids. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the most essential phospholipid and it’s found in young, healthy cellular membranes. As we age, the amount of PC in the cellular membranes decreases. It is replaced with less efficient phospholipids that can trap and retain common toxic compounds like heavy metals and pesticides. Age and chronic illness affect the functional integrity of cell membranes, which has a major impact on the gastrointestinal, vascular and neurological systems. By replenishing the supply of phosphatidylcholine to cells with an IV infusion, you can improve cellular function everywhere in the body. Most patients will receive between 8 to 10 phosphatidylcholine IV infusions over 1 to 2 months. The treatments themselves can take up to two hours as we also recommend that you follow your PC infusion with a glutathione IV for optimal results.
Any condition that is associated with poor cellular membrane health can be treated with PC supplementation. These include:
- Fatty liver disease
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Toxic Overload, Including Mold Toxicity
- Recovery from Stroke and Brain Injury/Trauma
- Autoimmune Disease
- Neurodegenerative Disorders, Including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia, and Memory Loss
- High Cholesterol and Heart Disease
- Neuropathy and Other Nerve Disorders
- Migraines
- Ulcerative Colitis/Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Skin Issues, Including Eczema and Acne
- PMS
- Anxiety and Other Mood Disorders
- Premature Aging
